A River Runs Through It
About this event
The Maclean brothers, Paul (Brad Pitt) and Norman (Craig Sheffer), live a relatively idyllic life in rural Montana, spending much of their time fly fishing. The sons of a minister (Tom Skerritt), the boys eventually part company when Norman moves east to attend college, leaving his rebellious brother to find trouble back home. When Norman finally returns, the siblings resume their fishing outings, and assess both where they've been and where they're going.
After the film, Noah Snyder, grandson of Norman Maclean, will tell stories and answer questions about his experience as an extra in A River Runs Through It and his memories of his grandfather.
The sixth biennial Norman Maclean Festival, “Celebrating the Blackfoot: The Story of Montana’s Iconic River” will be held on March 12-13, 2027 at The Wilma and other Missoula sites. This festival will honor the far-reaching role that the Blackfoot River watershed has played in western culture and history: home to Indigenous Peoples, ‘Road to the Buffalo’, mining, logging and the current challenges to the river. The 2027 Norman Maclean Literary Festival will be a celebration of rivers, placing our beloved Blackfoot River in the spotlight.
