First Friday Starts at UM: September / Soft Monuments Public Sewing Evening
About this event
EVERYONE IS WELCOME to attend this special Soft Monuments Public Sewing Evening for First Friday . This project connects diverse groups of people including UM students, staff, faculty, and community partners through the shared process of making. Each Public Sewing Day welcomes all on campus, whether you re a first-year student, staff member, custodian, or faculty member. Brooklyn artist Amanda Browder is The School of Art and Game Design s Artist in Residence this semester. She is working with the UM and Missoula residents to create two community made textile installations. One will drape the Music Building on UM s campus, and the other will drape Missoula s historic Brunswick Building . The installation will take place in November, so come join the process of connecting people with interaction and donated fabric with pins and thread over the next couple months! No sewing experience is necessary. Come watch, meet new folks, hang out, and help!
