Course incorporates self-study through online training and lecture/skill practice at the pool with experienced instructors. We are hiring! American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Candidates must be 15 years of age on or before the final day of class. Candidates must also be mature and able to complete the swim prerequisites below, stop by Currents and complete the pre-test BEFORE you register. Successful participants receive national certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including deep water) which includes certification in CPR/AED and First Aid. NOTE: Apply for a lifeguard position at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/jobs … successful applicants are reimbursed for this course! Swim Prerequisites Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest (goggles are permitted, not timed): Jump into water and submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs Swim 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds (goggles not permitted): Start in the water, swim 20 yards Surface dive to a depth of 8.5 feet & retrieve 10lb. brick, Return to surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point Exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Please note – this course will have online components which must be completed prior to the first day of class! Fee: $100 (No CityCard discount) – this fee includes the use of the online course material, a loaner copy of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual, and American Red Cross certification fee.
