About this program

The backcountry program offers students a truly unique opportunity to learn how to become a safe and responsible winter backcountry steward.

Students spend time learning how to use alpine touring set-ups and avalanche-safety gear. Once comfortable with their gear, students spend time learning about traveling in avalanche terrain, the factors that influence snowpack/avalanche conditions, and how to balance group dynamics and risk management.
