About this provider

This year, MCPS is piloting a new model of middle school learning, a small, intentional program that offers a different structure for students who thrive with more hands-on investigation, stronger team relationships, and deeper connections to their community.

How to join

60 spots available per school (CS Porter and Washington) for students entering 6th grade this fall. Washington Microschool: Application window is now closed. CS Porter Microcschool: Applicaion window remains open until filled.

Philosophy

The program organizes learning around four outcomes, called Big Rocks, that align with our Profile of a Graduate: academic strength, problem-solving, leadership, and love of learning.

A typical day

Students spend half of the day engaged in academic instruction focused on reading, writing, and math, with targeted small-group support and tech-assisted learning tailored to each student. The other half of the day opens up into something different.
